Our internship program is an exceptional place to expand and develop your skills.

What you learn in the classroom becomes amplified through real-life, on-the-job experience. You may be currently enrolled in school, recent graduates or experienced professionals looking to gain exposure to a new career or field. The NAC internship program is an exceptional place to expand and develop your skills and capabilities.

Internships range from part-time up to full-time positions for three to four months and offer a wide array of opportunities. Learn how to assist in facilitating indoor or outdoor recreation activities and apply adaptive techniques that accommodate people with different abilities.

Our NAC Day Camp Interns assist in the facilitation of outdoor recreation, camp activities, and adaptive techniques in a day camp setting for individuals with and without disabilities, ages 6-30.

Therapeutic Recreation Interns assist in all aspects of programs and administration. They are supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist while performing tasks as outlined by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Based on experience, the intern may also serve in a leadership role, as an instructor or facilitator. Interns also provide information on current trends in therapeutic recreation services, through projects, presentations, and staff in-services.

Under the supervision of the Equestrian Programs Manager, interns will assist in the delivery and management of EAAT (Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapies) programs. Specific duties will be discussed during interviews but may include the following: teaching lessons, administrative duties, event planning, and horse schooling and care. Interns will also be responsible for interacting with staff, volunteers, participants, and their families.

The National Ability Center’s COACH program is designed to create a structured and successful continuum of growth and learning for young adults with disabilities that enable them to transition from school to work. This program is based on our belief that sports are an excellent catalyst for teaching vital life skills. This Internship is available to those ages 16-22 with a disability. The intern must be independent or provide a personal care attendant and transportation to the National Ability.

*Housing is not available.
